Ingredients

Units Scale
  • 1/2 cup (1 stick) unsalted butter
  • 2 cups peanut butter
  • 1/4 cup light brown sugar, firmly packed
  • two teaspoons vanilla extract
  • 1/2 teaspoon salt
  • 4 cups powdered sugar
  • 4 cups quality milk chocolate chips
  • 2 tablespoons plus
  • two teaspoons shortening or cocoa butter

Instructions

  1. Place the butter in a microwave-safe bowl and microwave in 20-second intervals until thoroughly melted.
  2. Combine melted butter, peanut butter, brown sugar, salt, and vanilla in a large mixing
bowl. Mix with an electric mixer until combined.
  3. Add powdered sugar and mix well. The mixture will be somewhat dry.
  4. Dump the mixture out onto a large piece of parchment paper and press it down firmly
until the dough is at least ½ inch thick. Use a rolling pin if needed to help flatten it out.
  5. Lift up the parchment paper and place the flattened dough onto a cookie
sheet. Place the cookie sheet in the freezer for approximately 30 minutes.
  6. After 30 minutes, remove the dough from the freezer and cut out heart shapes using a
2-inch heart-shaped cookie cutter. Re-roll the leftover dough pieces and cut out more
hearts. Repeat until all the dough is used up.
  7. Line 2 baking sheets with more parchment paper and place the hearts onto the
    prepared baking sheets.
  8. Place the hearts back into the freezer while you prepare the chocolate coating.
  9. Place the chocolate chips and shortening in a double boiler and cook on the stovetop
over medium heat until the chocolate is fully melted, stirring constantly. Remove the
    pot from the heat.
  10. Take one of the cookie sheets out of the freezer and immediately dip each heart into
the chocolate using a toothpick. Place the dipped hearts carefully back onto the cookie sheet.
  11. If the chocolate becomes too thick while you’re working, place the whole double boiler
back over the heat until it is fully melted once again.
  12. Place the tray in the refrigerator and repeat steps 10-11 until all the remaining hearts
    have been coated.
  13. Let the chocolate fully harden, and drizzle any leftover chocolate over the hearts.
  14. Store leftovers in the refrigerator.

Notes
